Reading roundup 31/01/18

So this is the last Reading Roundup post of the month and I am not sure what to say. My book reading has been, what should I write here, unsuccessful(?) this week. In fact, I have only finished one book and am halfway through another, instead of my usual three or four. This has been caused by a number of things. Instead of reading books I have been immersed in online reading about a range of issues, mainly feminism and politics and the interactions between feminism and politics. This, together with mental and physical health issues, has really brought me down. I have been struggling for some kind of equilibrium and have not found that much needed balance as yet.

Let’s hope that things improve.

Reckless Creed by Alex Kava

Reckless Creed by Alex Kava

I will, therefore, write about the only book of the week: Alex Kava’s Reckless Creed, #03 in her Ryder Creed series. Here is the blurb:

Ryder Creed, his K-9 search-and-rescue dogs, and FBI agent Maggie O’Dell find themselves at the center of a dire and mysterious case.

In Chicago, a young man jumps from his thirtieth-story hotel room; along the Missouri river, a hunter and his son stumble upon a lake whose surface is littered with snow geese, all of them dead; and in southern Alabama, Ryder Creed and his search-and-rescue dog Grace find the body of a young woman who went missing in the Conecuh National Forest…and it appears she filled her pockets with rocks and walked into the river. Before long Ryder Creed and FBI profiler Maggie O’Dell will discover the ominous connection among these mysterious deaths. What they find may be the most prolific killer the United States has ever known.

And this was my review for three stars:

Entertaining thriller with dogs as the main characters. A slight exaggeration perhaps, but the dogs were a lot more interesting than the humans and I’m not even a dog lover! An enjoyable read with enough plot to keep me interested, although not gripped.

I had already read #02 in the series a while ago and found it OK, so I may read more by Kava if I come across her books on the Library shelves but I won’t go out of my way to find them, if you see what I mean.

Caliban’s War By James SA Corey

Caliban’s War By James SA Corey

I wrote about how much I rated Leviathan Wakes by James S A Corey in the Reading Roundup post of  17/01/18. In fact, I enjoyed the book so much that I immediately put the next two in the series on reserve. I picked them up from the Library and am now about halfway through #02 of The Expanse series called Caliban’s War. I will let you know how I get on with it next week.

So that is my quick roundup of this week’s reading! I hope that my concentration improves again and that I can get back to normal.

Happy Reading to you all.

Best wishes
