I am feeling quite pleased with myself today as I have managed to cope with quite a bit of disruption in the house. Lovely Husband and I decided the other week to get on with our long list of household maintenance jobs which we had been putting off for some years. We were both so caught up with our worries and stress that we were allowing our home to get into quite a poor state. This then fed back into making us even more worried!
So, yesterday and today we had some chaps come to repair the roof and also open up the loft hatch for the first time in years. There is a huge accumulation of dust and rubble up in the loft from a huge hail storm which caused massive damage in our area a few years ago. Lovely Husband was worried that opening up the loft would send clouds of debris around the house and cause me to have serious coughing attacks. We had put this off for too long until I just said “Let’s go for it!”
As it turned out, I actually had a bad coughing bout over lunch when a crumb went down the wrong way. This resulted in a rather undignified dash to the loo, where I had the embarrassing episode of sitting there coughing and retching into a bucket with two young men sitting on the roof just outside the bathroom window! I now find the thought rather funny, although I didn’t at the time.
When they had finished with the roof, we all held our breath whilst the hatch was opened and…. hardly anything came down! It was such an anticlimax. And a very welcome relief all round. So we have now booked in to have the loft sorted out as well, thereby ticking another job from the to-do list. Phew!
After posting my purple Hermès scarves on The Purse Forum for this week’s theme, I had the colour firmly in my mind, so had to wear shades of purple today…
